The Screwtape Letters

I’m in the midst of reading The Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis for the very first time.  I love it.  I love the way C.S. Lewis wrote a twisted view of the world through Screwtape.  One quote I came across last night seemed perfect for yesterday’s thoughts.

“…that ‘love’ is not enough, that charity is needed…”

Screwtape says he doesn’t believe love is real, thus the quotation marks.  He wants his nephew to make the man focus on the romantic version of love and miss the day to day charity of behavior that is truely hard for these demons to combat.

It’s up to us to rely on God for a true understanding of what love is and act on it, not just feel it.

I need to show my husband and boys how much I love them through everyday actions.  Driving, cooking, cleaning….  I also need to do all these things out of love not obligation.

Well, I should get back to those dirty bathrooms.  I just have to keep the right attitude.  Eventually the attitude should become a habit of thought.  Pray for me on this one.   ;)
